How to upload tax documents

Overview

FileJoy makes it easy to upload and organize your tax documents. Our AI automatically scans documents to extract important information, saving you time and reducing errors.

Supported File Types

We accept the following file formats:

  • **PDF** (recommended for best results)
  • **Images**: JPEG, PNG, WebP
  • **CSV files** for bank statements and transaction data

Maximum file size: 10MB per file

How to Upload Documents

Option 1: Drag and Drop

  1. Navigate to **Your Documents** in the sidebar
  2. Drag your files directly into the upload area
  3. Wait for the upload and AI scan to complete

Option 2: Click to Browse

  1. Click the upload area or the "Browse" button
  2. Select one or more files from your computer
  3. Click "Open" to start the upload

Option 3: Upload from Specific Pages

You can also upload documents directly when:

  • Adding a W-2 (upload your W-2 form)
  • Adding expenses (upload receipts)
  • On the deductions page (upload supporting documents)

AI Document Scanning

After uploading, our AI automatically:

  • Identifies the document type (W-2, 1099, receipt, etc.)
  • Extracts key information (amounts, dates, names)
  • Suggests where the data should go in your return

Bulk Uploads

You can upload multiple files at once:

  1. Select multiple files when browsing, or drag multiple files at once
  2. Each file is processed individually
  3. You'll see a progress indicator for each file

Tips for Best Results

  • **Use PDFs when possible** - They scan more accurately than photos
  • **Ensure documents are clear** - Avoid blurry or dark images
  • **Check the scan results** - Verify AI-extracted data is correct
  • **Keep originals organized** - Name files descriptively

After Uploading

Once uploaded, your documents appear in your document library where you can:

  • View the original document
  • See the AI-extracted summary
  • Link documents to specific items in your return
  • Re-scan if needed

Troubleshooting

Upload failed

Check your internet connection and file size. Try a different file format if issues persist.

AI scan didn't extract correct information

You can manually edit any information, or try re-scanning with a clearer image.

Document not appearing

Refresh the page. If it still doesn't appear, try uploading again.
