Before You Delete
Warning: Deleting your FileJoy account is permanent and irreversible. Before proceeding, make sure you understand what will be lost.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:
- **All tax return data** — every return you've created or filed through FileJoy
- **All uploaded documents** — W-2s, 1099s, receipts, and any other files you've uploaded
- **Your profile information** — name, email, address, and account settings
- **Filing history** — records of returns you've submitted
- **AI extraction data** — any data our system has processed from your documents
This data cannot be recovered after deletion. The IRS will still have copies of returns you e-filed, but FileJoy will not.
Export Your Data First
We strongly recommend downloading your data before deleting your account:
Step 1: Download Your Returns
- Go to each **tax year** on your dashboard
- Click **Print Return** or **Download PDF** for each filed return
- Save the PDFs to your computer
Step 2: Download Your Documents
- Go to **Documents** in the sidebar
- Click **Download All** to get a ZIP file of all your uploaded documents
- Save the ZIP file to your computer
Step 3: Verify Your Downloads
Open the downloaded files to make sure everything is there before proceeding with account deletion.

After Deletion
- You'll receive a confirmation email that your account has been deleted
- If you want to use FileJoy again in the future, you'll need to create a brand new account
- Previously filed returns are still on file with the IRS—deleting your FileJoy account doesn't affect your tax filings
- If you have an active subscription, it will be canceled and you'll receive a prorated refund for the remaining period
Tips
- Consider **downloading everything** before deleting—you'll thank yourself later
- If you're deleting because of a security concern, **change your password** first and contact support
- If you're just taking a break, you can leave your account inactive instead of deleting it—your data will be preserved
