How to Change Your Password

Keeping your password secure is important, especially when your account contains sensitive tax information. Here's how to update your password in FileJoy.

Steps to Change Your Password

Step 1: Go to Account Settings

Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen, then select Account Settings from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Navigate to Security

In Account Settings, click the Security tab.

Step 3: Enter Your Current Password

For your protection, you'll need to enter your current password before setting a new one. This verifies that it's really you making the change.

Step 4: Create a New Password

Enter your new password. FileJoy requires passwords to meet the following criteria:

  • At least **8 characters** long
  • At least one **uppercase letter** (A–Z)
  • At least one **lowercase letter** (a–z)
  • At least one **number** (0–9)
  • At least one **special character** (!@#$%^&* etc.)

A strength indicator will show you how strong your new password is. Aim for "Strong" or "Very Strong."

Step 5: Confirm and Save

Re-enter your new password to confirm it, then click Save Changes. You'll see a success message, and your password is updated immediately.

Forgot Your Password?

If you can't remember your current password and need to reset it:

  1. Log out of FileJoy (or go to the login page)
  2. Click **Forgot Password**
  3. Enter the email address associated with your account
  4. Check your email for a reset link (check spam/junk if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes)
  5. Click the link and create a new password
  6. Log in with your new password

Reset links expire after 1 hour for security reasons. If yours has expired, just request a new one.

Tips

  • Use a **password manager** to generate and store strong passwords
  • Don't reuse passwords from other sites—if another site is breached, your FileJoy account could be at risk
  • Change your password immediately if you suspect unauthorized access
  • After changing your password, you'll stay logged in on your current device but may need to log in again on other devices
